Muslims?!
This gallery is the online representation of my body of work entitled Muslims?! I have photographed Canadian Muslims engaged in the ordinary and not so ordinary activities that are part of their daily lives. This exhibition illustrates that any label can only at best define a small part of a person’s identity, and seeks to break down stereotypes held by both Muslims and non-Muslims about what it means to be a Canadian Muslim.

Laury
Laury, Imam, Professor of Religion, 2011
Signed, Limited Edition, Archival Giclee Print, 1/10
$250 Unframed/$350 Framed
Laury is the co-founder of a Juma (Friday) Prayer Circle in Toronto. The circle is gender-equal, LGBT friendly, and provides a safe place for worship. Laury is the leader of the congregation, the Imam. Since a woman Imam is about as controversial as a woman Catholic priest, this photograph provides a lens for the issue of gender in Islam.
